Week filled with spooky good news

We couldn’t have asked for better weather or clearer skies, but the last week of October brought more than just wonderful conditions outdoors.

Let’s review some of the good news the last week brought:

-The Daughters of the American Revolution have been caring for Rosalie for 70 years now. The women celebrated the anniversary Tuesday.

All of Natchez, and countless tourists, are lucky that this group has cared for, researched and promoted this house like they have. It is an essential part of our history, and we are happy to celebrate the anniversary along with the DAR.

– The City of Vidalia contributed $2,424 to Kyle’s House — a daycare for special needs children — this week.

The money came from the proceeds to the city from a children’s carnival on the riverfront during the Great Mississippi River Balloon Race.

This non-profit can use every donation it can get, and we are happy to see Vidalia is recognizing that need.

– Alcorn State University made things official this week when it inaugurated President George Ross. Ross has been leading the university for more than a year, but festivities in his honor were this week.

Ross promised to continue Alcorn’s commitment to the Miss-Lou, and we are grateful to know the new leader has us in mind.

-The streets of downtown Natchez were a mystical place Friday night. Ghosts, goblins and even walking M&Ms filled the streets, trick or treating business by business. The Downtown Development Association hosts the event each year, and it is a great event for children and business owners.

With Halloween over and Christmas breathing down our necks, we know the month to come will be a great one.
