A true Scottish lassie, Grace was born in Ivanhoe, N.C. and spent a lot of time at Holden Beach, N.C. with friends and family. After graduating from Richland High School in Richland, N.C., she was employed as a statistician with Atlantic Coastline Railroad in Wilmington, N.C. At the end of World War II, she married her husband, George William Gulledge, and moved to Natchez where she resided until she was diagnosed recently with cancer.
An avid golfer, she and her husband participated in tournaments at Duncan Park, Natipco and Belwood Country Club. Her passion was gardening and she took great pride in showing off her flower beds and expert “green thumb” which she passed on to her eldest son. Her kitchen was always filled with the smell of home cooked food which was enjoyed by her family and friends.
An avid piano player, tunes could be heard coming from the living room in the afternoon. She was employed at the Clothes Closet in Natchez and enjoyed designing the window each week. Active in Auburn Garden Club during her later years, she enriched the lives of tourist during their stay in Natchez with her true southern accent and hospitality by receiving visitors at the antebellum homes. She was active in community groups and a member of the First Baptist Church in Natchez since moving from North Carolina.
After 91 wonderful years of life, Grace has joined her husband; her parents, George Cornelius Bannerman and Edith India Dobson Bannerman; her twin brother, Victor Theodore Bannerman; stepmother, Lucy Marshburn Bannerman; paternal grandparents, Quince and Mary McMillian Bannerman in heaven.
A wonderful caring mother, she will be lovingly remembered by two sons, George Lynn Gulledge and wife, Beverly Brown Gulledge and David Graceon Gulledge and wife, Barbara Buckley Gulledge; one daughter, Alice F. Gulledge; three grandchildren, Ian Shawn Gulledge and wife, Jessica, Erika Elizabeth Gulledge and her fiancé, Clinton Campbell and D. Grayson Rivers Gulledge; and two great-grandchildren, Michael Cody Gulledge and Sarah Elizabeth Gulledge, who are all missing their grandmother.
