NATCHEZ — It will be a grand affair, but it will be for the dogs — and cats.
The Natchez-Adams County Humane Society’s annual Animal Affair fundraiser will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Magnolia Vale, located at 29 Learneds Mill Road.
The fundraiser brings in a significant amount of money — several thousand dollars — for the NACHS, and that money is dedicated to the shelter’s general fund.
“It goes to pay for food, vaccines, meds, vet bills, utilities — it goes to keep us operating,” NACHS manager Pat Cox said.
This casual dress, cash bar fundraiser isn’t just another bake sale, however, and someone always volunteers to host it in their home.
“We like to have it at a home people don’t usually have access to,” Cox said.
And that is part of the reason Louise Peabody volunteered to have it at Magnolia Vale.
“It had not been previously open to the public, and people are curious,” Peabody said.
“People love to give (the Animal Affair) party, and it is always (hosted by) nice people who care for and have concern for the four-footed people — animals.”
But the popularity of hosting the party is not the only reason Peabody, who owns three dogs, one of which is adopted, volunteered to host the party.
“I love animals and, if I could, I would have every one of them,” Peabody said.
“I have a tendency to want to take in all of the cats, dogs and birds in the world.”
The event is open to the public with a $25 donation per person.
