NATCHEZ — Services for Felix Laverne “Smitty” Smith Sr., 84, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, will be at 2 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Spencer officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born April 2, 1924, in Brookhaven, the son of Verna Ray and Lillie Smith. He entered the U.S. Navy at the start of World War II, serving on the USS Montgomery and the USS Shipley Bay until the end of the war. He was retired from Jitney Jungle Store as market manager.
Mr. Smith loved bowling and his dogs. He was a member of the Natchez Moose Lodge and the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rena Leggett Smith; one son, Felix Laverne “Buddy” Smith Jr.; four sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include one son, Jack E. Smith and wife, Jan; one daughter, Cissie Latham, all of Natchez; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be James Latham, Kyle Jackson, Paul Rogers, Bill Thomas, Mike Varnado and George Rutherford.
Honorary pallbearers will be Adams County Sheriff officers, Natchez Moose Lodge members and members of the VFW.
