NATCHEZ — Services for Florence V. Green Shields, 90, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Baptist Church with the Rev. Chester Cain officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Shields was born March 16, 1918, in Natchez, the daughter of Arthur Sr. and Sarah Proby White. She was a housewife and a seamstress. She was a Baptist and a member of St. Peter Baptist Church.
Mrs. Shields enjoyed arts and crafts, fishing and humanitarian pursuits.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cedric J. Green Sr., and second husband, Willie Shields; one son, Cedric J. Green Jr.; and 11 sisters and brothers.
Survivors include one sister, Sarah White of Natchez; one brother, Arthur White of Oakland, Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Vernadine M. Green and husband, Solomon Bradford of San Ramon, Calif.; five grandchildren, Cedric J. Green III of San Ramon, Dena M. Green and Debra A. Emile, both of Natchez, Donald A. Green of Oakland and Pamela D. Green and John Hall, both of Napa Valley, Calif.; niece, Zelda Hayes and husband, L.T. Smith, both of Natchez; five great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; a special friend and confidant, Oliver “Buddy” Evans; and a long time childhood friend and honorary relative, Hattie Rose Marshall, both of Natchez.
Pallbearers will be Kenan Bradford, Keaire Bradford, Kelvin Bradford, L.T. Smith, Ronald Edgerson Jr. and Ryan Edgerson.
