Jewel Eakin

NATCHEZ — Services for Jewel Underwood Eakin, 93, of Humble, Texas, formerly of Natchez, who died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, in Humble, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Spencer officiating.
Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Eakin was born June 12, 1915, in Corning, Ark., the daughter of Rupert and Myrtle Hicks Underwood. She grew up in Helena, Ark., and lived and worked in Memphis, Tenn. prior to World War II. In April 1946, she married Hiram Butler Eakin in Vicksburg. They made their first home in Pattison. They would live in Utica, Pinola, Port Gibson, Glen Allan and Shaw, before settling in Natchez in 1970. They lived in Pine Acres on Highway 61 North and were members of Parkway Baptist Church. Jewel was employed in Natchez at The Diamond Shop for many years and retired from The Factory Outlet Dress Shop in 1997. She moved to San Lorenzo, Calif. to live with her daughter and family in 1997. They moved to Porter, Texas, in 2005, where she lived until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.
Survivors include one daughter, Jean Jones and husband, Keith; two grandchildren, Jennifer Jones and Jason Jones, all of Porter.
