MONTEREY — Services for Burlon “Joe” Lipsey, 81, of Monterey, who died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at Natchez Regional Medical Center will be at 11 a.m. today at New Era Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Ratcliff, the Rev. Mac Walker and the Rev. Huey Tarpley officiating.
Burial will follow at Dewey Cemetery, in Monterey, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mr. Lipsey was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Monterey, the son of Tillman Vanner Lipsey and Nina Boles Lipsey. He retired from the Louisiana State Highway Department after 32 years of service. He moved in with his sister, Maxine, after the death of his wife. He was an avid sports fan for the local Monterey Wolves where everyone loved to see him. He will be greatly missed by all the fans, friends and loved ones.
Mr. Lipsey a member of the New Era Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle Carlin Lipsey; his parents; three brothers, James W. Lipsey, Ivy V. Lipsey and Houma A. Lipsey; and two sisters, Thelma Tarver and Floy Delhoste.
Survivors include two sisters, Maxine Strebeck and Melba Thompson and husband, Lester, all of Monterey; one brother, Aubrey Lipsey of Monterey; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Van Strebeck, Lane Dale, Lanny Lipsey, Jerry Lipsey, Gerald Delhoste, Curtis Green, J.D. Lipsey and Paul Lipsey.
