MEADVILLE — David Brown and Hunter Hatcher each had one goal and one assist while Joey Shelton had a solid performance both on the field and at goalkeeper in leading Franklin County to a 6-0 win over Natchez High Friday night.

The host Bulldogs scored three goals in each half while the visiting Bulldogs — playing with an injury-riddled lineup — were unable to put the goal into the net.

In addition to his one goal, Shelton played at goalkeeper and had three saves. Will Rouse also played at goalkeeper for Franklin County and had four saves.

“I’ve already got a young squad. Tonight I’m missing three veterans,” Natchez High coach Dennis Hogue said. “Kent Calvitt got hurt in the Jim Hill game. Kent wanted to play, but I wouldn’t let him. Jared Anderson twisted his knee before the Jim Hill game. He missed that game and played this game, but his knee is about 70 percent. Chase Kaiser has the flu. He’s the anchor of our defense.”

Hogue added that, even though the score was lopsided in favor of Franklin County, the players from both teams got along real well and there was no trash-talking.

“This game was nice. Nobody got hurt,” he said.

Also scoring goals for Franklin County were Kin Mullins, Adam Chance and Coleman Graves.

The varsity girls game did not take place because Franklin County had played too many games. So Hogue put in some players from Natchez High’s varsity girls team for the junior varsity game, which Franklin County won 2-1 thanks to a goal late in the second half.

Natchez High will host Lawrence County today with the varsity girls’ game starting at 1 p.m., followed by the varsity boys’ game at 2:30 p.m.
