Wildcats get first victory

WOODVILLE — Kenny Harden led four Wilkinson County players in double figures with 22 points as the Wildcats picked up their first win of the season in Region 7-3A with an 85-56 win over the Amite County Trojans.
Wilkinson County dominated the action on both ends of the court in the first half, and Amite County had no answer for what the Wildcats were doing. The Wildcats took a 24-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and went into halftime leading 45-24.
The Trojans tried to rally in the third quarter. They did score 18 points, but the problem was their defense could not slow down the Wildcats, who had 19 points in the quarter. The Wildcats then finished off the Trojans with a 21-14 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Migal Covington had 20 points for Wilkinson County (6-6, 1-3) while Darrius Knox and John Moore III each had 10 points.
Justin Patterson led Amite County in scoring with 20 points and B.J. Johnson had 11 points.
Trinity Episcopal 61,
River Oaks 48
NATCHEZ — River Oaks tried its best to pull off an upset over second-ranked Trinity Episcopal, but the Saints had too much offensive firepower and the result was a 61-48 win by one of the top teams in Class AA.
Neither team was able to get a big lead on the other in the first half. Trinity Episcopal led by just one point after one quarter of play and only three points at halftime. However, the second half proved to be a different story as the Saints pulled away for the 10-point win to improve to 2-0 in MPSA District 3-AA.
Brandon Daggs led Trinity Episcopal (15-4 overall) with 19 points. Andrew Johnson finished with 15 points and Giovanni Dent scored 13 points. Will White led River Oaks with 20 points, but he was the only Mustangs player to reach double figures.
Huntington 82, Tallulah Academy 41
TALLULAH, La. — Tyler Peré led all scorers with 25 points and led four Huntington players in double figures as the Hounds doubled up the Trojans in MPSA District 6-A action Friday night.
The Trojans were in for a long game from the opening tip and there was nothing they could do to stop or even slow down the Hounds on this night. Huntington jumped out to an 18-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and by halftime led 40-15.
Jeremy Randall had 20 points, Kevin Brown added 11 points and Josh Lee chipped in with 10 points for Huntington (9-8, 3-1). Jess Shivers led Tallulah Academy with 20 points.
Bowling Green 66, Centreville 53
CENTREVILLE — Centreville had no answer for Bowling Green’s duo of Jaron Edwards and Chad Fortenberry, who combined for 45 points as the Buccaneers defeated the Tigers Friday night to remain undefeated in MPSA District 5-AA.
Edwards led all scorers with 26 points and Fortenberry had 19 points for Bowling Green (13-6, 4-0). However, the Buccaneers almost blew a 40-15 halftime lead after getting outscored by Centreville 29-10 in the third quarter.
But the Buccaneers regained their composure and won the game by outscoring the Tigers 16-9 in the fourth quarter.
Colby Lockwood led Centreville (6-8, 1-2) with 20 points and Kyle Brown had 13 points.
