James McCary

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Memorial services for retired Army Col. James G. McCary, 92, of Montgomery, Ala., who died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, will be 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Wetumpka Airport.
Col. McCary was a a native of Baldwyn, the son of James Calvin and Corrie Mae Gower McCary. He was a 31-year veteran serving in World War II as a pilot and instructor pilot with the Army Air Corp. He was also a recipient of the Wright Brothers Award which is given for 50 years of perfect flying.
Col. Montgomery moved to Montgomery in 1990 and was an active member of Chapter 422 of the EAA and served for 10 years as secretary on the Wetumpka Airport board.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Millinee Esco McCary; and one brother, William McCary.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Maze McCary; three children, Eugene “Mac” McCary and wife, Chris, both of Jonesville, Lynda Bannister and husband, Glen, both of Montgomery, and Shawn Dominic and wife, Virgil, both of Medina, Ohio; two stepchildren, Kevin Maze Montgomery and wife, Ellen, and Kendra Maze Smith and husband, Jim, both of Birmingham, Ala.; four granddaughters, Katherine Gould and husband, Heyward, Millinee Womack and husband, Mark, Karla Pope and husband, Pat, and Michelle Ratcliff; five great-grandchildren; one brother, A.D. “Bud” McCary and wife, Barbara; and one nephew, Tim McCary and wife, Penny, both of Natchez.
It was Col. McCary’s wishes that there be no flowers and no funeral.
