Camden, Ark. — Graveside services for Mary Helen McGill Adams, 82, of Camden, Ark., who died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 in Monroe, La., will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Nevada County, Ark. under the direction of Proctor Funeral Home in Camden, Ark., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the Proctor Funeral Home Chapel in Camden with the Rev. Norman Bryant and the Rev. Don Phillips officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Adams was born April 27, 1926, the daughter of Dr. Samuel D. McGill and Helen Watts McGill. She was a graduate of Camden High School. She graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor of science degree in business. At the university, she was a member of Chi Omega sorority.
Forty years of her married life were spent in Natchez where she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Natchez and the Natchez Garden Club. Upon the death of her husband, Charles, in 1996 she moved back to Camden. Mrs. Adams was a charter member of Tate’s Bluff Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles H. Adams and a brother, Samuel D. McGill Jr.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Fordham and her husband Jimmy, of Monroe, La., and Kathy Welch and her husband James, of Camden; four grandchildren, Melissa Davis and her husband Greg, of Greenville, S.C., Laura Andrews and her husband, Zechariah, of Prentiss, Jennifer Welch and her fiancé Tyler Miller, both of Waco, Texas and Andrew Welch and fiancée Bre Smith, both of Camden; one sister, Josephine McGill; one brother, Thomas McGill, both of Camden; numerous cousins and a loving caregiver and friend, Mrs. Lorene Sanders.
Pallbearers will be James Welch, Jimmy Fordham, Greg Davis, Zechariah Andrews, Andrew Welch and Tyler Miller.
