BUDE — Services for Ruby Smith Boggan, 96, of Meadville, who died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, will be at 7 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Bude.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, near Mendenhall, under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the church.
Mrs. Boggan was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Scott County, the daughter of Jim and Tinie Hawkins Smith.
She was affectionately known throughout Franklin County as “Mrs. Boggan.” She taught school for nearly 50 years and touched the lives of thousands of children and taught several generations of many families. She was a very special lady; she made each of her students feel special with her love and gentle attention toward each of them. In addition to being a caring teacher and devoted servant of God, she was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother whose spirit of strength and support will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years, William E. Boggan; and four brothers, Earl, Cliff, Troy and Dorsey Smith.
Survivors include two children, Laura Ann Boggan Tyson of Bude and William Joe Boggan of Idaho; one brother, Billy Ray Smith of Clinton; four grandchildren, Ann Tyson Speyer of Virginia, Jodi Boggan Rush of Texas, Barry Tyson of Meadville and Shannon Boggan of Maryland; nine great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, relative and friends, including her close friend of 65 years, Lorena Dean.
