NATCHEZ — Cathedral’s streak of 10-run victories came to halt Monday evening at Chester Willis Field, but the Green Wave continued their winning ways by easily defeating the Vidalia Vikings 9-3 in the second game of a doubleheader that also included Monterey.

Vidalia scored two runs in the first thanks to two Green Wave errors, but Cathedral responded with three straight 2-run innings and slowly built their lead on the Vikings.

“We struggled a little early but we got better as the game went on,” Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said. “I can’t say we played bad in a 9-to-3 victory, but we could have swung the bats a little better.”

Cathedral pitcher Preston Edwards silenced the Vidalia bats and only allowed one more run in the fourth.

“We’re still trying to find our lineup defensively and offensively,” Vidalia head coach Johnny Lee Hoffpauir said. “We aren’t hitting like we should be and we’re striking out way too much.”

Edwards collected the win for the Green Wave while Jake DeWeese was handed the loss.

Kole Junkin led Cathedral with a 2-for-4 performance that included a single, a triple and an RBI.

Four Viking players hit singles during the game.

Cathedral plays Oak Hill and Trinity Friday in Vidalia’s Catfish Classic.

Vidalia will face Jena this Thursday in the Classic.
