Last month Collins, a Quentin native picked Southern Miss over scholarship offers from Auburn, Tennessee and Mississippi State. The choice sent shock waves through the state as the Eagles signed a Blue-Chip SEC caliber recruit away from the big schools.

Over the past three seasons, Jamie Collins’ name has been synonymous with Franklin County football. His sophomore year in 2006, he helped guide the Bulldogs to the Class 3A State Championship. FCHS finished State runner-up in 2007 and South State runner-up in 2008.

“It’s been some good years,” Collins said. “I’ve enjoyed them all.”

Over three seasons as the Bulldogs starting quarterback/safety, the Bulldogs went 36-4 overall, winning two South State titles and a State Championship along the way. Collins has accounted for 54 touchdowns and over 6,000 yards of total offense in three varsity seasons at Franklin County.

“When I look down at that (State Championship) ring I remember those plays he made,” Franklin County senior Josey Carithers said. “We often joke at him calling him Super Man after games, because we just couldn’t believe what he just did.”

Collins isn’t just a football standout, he also excelled in basketball too, averaging 24 points and 12 rebounds over three playoff, bound seasons.

“Most athletic player I’ve ever coached,” Bulldogs head basketball coach Chris Jordan said. “Above the rim he can do a lot of things with the ball.”

Currently Collins has six weeks remaining as a student at Franklin County High School he’s been practicing the long jump with the Track and Field team hoping to compete for the State Championship in that event too.

No doubt an athlete, Collins has given Franklin County all that and then some.
