LIBERTY — Wells Middleton went 3-for-4 with a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning as the Trinity Episcopal Saints rolled to a 25-8 win over the still-winless Amite School Center Rebels Tuesday afternoon.

Middleton’s grand slam was part of a nine-run barrage in the top of the sixth inning that allowed Trinity Episcopal (3-4) to 10-run rule Amite School Center after Trevor Faust gave up no runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Daniel Dunaway had a three-run home run in the top of the fifth during which the Saints scored four runs en route to a 16-7 lead. Givonni Dent had four hits in four at-bats and Chase Patrick was 3-for-4.

As a team, the Saints had 20 hits. All nine starters had at least one hit, and all nine starters scored at least one run.

“We’ve been swinging the bats pretty good. They hit the ball very well,” Trinity Episcopal head coach Matt Mason said. “They did what they had to do to score some runs.”

Middleton, who had a double and was 3-for-4, was also the winning pitcher despite giving up five runs in three innings, including Corey Varnado’s two-run home run in the bottom of the first. Dent pitched the fourth and fifth innings for Trinity and allowed three runs.

“We’ve still got to do a better job of getting ahead of the batters,” Mason said. “But they gave us a chance to score enough runs to win.”

Cole Wells was the losing pitcher for Amite School Center (0-6), and he went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Natchez High 13, Ferriday 2

NATCHEZ — Melvin Davis and Javon Washington combined on a three-hitter and 11 strikeouts as the Natchez High Bulldogs cruised past the Ferriday Trojans Tuesday night.

Davis, the winning pitcher, struck out eight and allowed two hits in three innings. Washington picked up the save by striking out three and giving up just one hit in two innings.

The score was tied at 1-1 before Natchez High (7-3-1) exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning, and just like that, the Bulldogs had an 11-1 lead.

The Trojans scored one run in the top of the third inning and kept the Bulldogs from 10-run ruling them until the Bulldogs scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 13-2 and Washington finished them off in the top of the fifth.

Trevon Chatman went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in for Natchez High and was the only multiple hitter for either team. Derrian Johnson had a triple and Alfred Banks had a double for the Bulldogs.

Franklin Academy 11, Huntington 0 (5 innings)

FERRIDAY — C. Kretzer pitched a no-hitter and struck out three in five innings as the Franklin Academy Cougars 10-run ruled the Huntington Hounds in MPSA District 6-A action Tuesday night.

Kretzer got all the support he needed in the top of the first inning, when Franklin Academy (2-0 in district play) scored nine runs and never looked back.

“We gave up too many runs early, too many errors,” Huntington head coach Leo Eliser said. “We didn’t the ball at all. We made some mistakes.”

The Cougars added a run in the top of the second and another run in the top of the third inning. Kretzer also went 2-for-4 with a double and B. Barefield was 3-for-4 with a double.

Huntington (1-4, 1-1) doesn’t play again until Saturday, when it hosts the Centreville Tigers, ranked No. 4 in Class AA. This will be the second meeting between these two teams in less than a week. The Tigers won on their home field 14-2 last Monday.

WCCA 10, Tensas Academy 5

ST. JOSEPH, La. — After giving up a three-run home run to Jon-Truman James in the bottom of the first inning, WCCA’s Hayden Whetstone allowed just two runs the rest of the game as the Rams rallied to defeat the Chiefs in an MPSA District 6-A game Tuesday afternoon.

WCCA (4-5, 1-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead before James’ three-run shot gave Tensas Academy the lead at the end of the first inning. The Chiefs scored one run in the bottom of the second for a 4-2 lead, but they struggled at the plate after the first inning.

Tensas Academy (3-6, 0-2) also had its issues defensively, committing four costly errors.

The Rams made it the score 4-3 with a run in the top of the third inning and then used a four-run rally in the top of the fourth to take the lead for good at 7-4. The Chiefs didn’t score again until the bottom of the sixth, but the Rams pulled away with three runs in the top of the seventh.

Randy Bell went 2-for-3 with both hits being doubles while Hayden Holden and Trey McCants each were 2-for-4 with a double for WCCA. Tensas Academy was led by David Leake, who was 3-for-3 with a double, and Sam Russell, who went 2-for-2 with a double.

Block 7, Claiborne Christian 2

JONESVILLE, La. — Thanks to a five-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning as well as outstanding performances on the mound from Curdarius Johnson and Justin Winborne, the Block Bears defeated the Claiborne Christian Crusaders Tuesday night.

Surprisingly, the Class C Crusaders from West Monroe, La., led Block 2-0 going into the bottom of the second inning. But the Bears fought back with one run in the bottom of the second and another run in the bottom of the third to tie the score at 2-2.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Block got timely hits and took advantage of some miscues by Claiborne Christian to score its five runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Johnson came on in relief and allowed just one hit and struck out two in two and two-thirds innings to pick up the win. Justin Winborne, who was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in, struck out six and gave up just one hit in two innings.

Chase Duncan went 3-for-3 and Dustin Winborne went 2-for-4 for Block (6-2.).

Franklin Parish 14, Monterey 4

MONTEREY, La. — Class B Monterey hung tough with Class 4A Franklin Parish for two innings, but the Patriots used two big innings to put away the Wolves Tuesday afternoon.

Franklin Parish was ahead just 1-0 after two innings of pay, but then scored five runs in the top of the third inning to take a 6-0 lead. Monterey got two of those runs back in the bottom of the third and scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 6-4 game.

Yet once again, the Patriots responded with another big inning. This time, they score scored six runs in the top of the sixth and made sure the Wolves would not rally again by adding two more runs in the top of the seventh.

Nick (no last name given) went 2-for-5 with a double and a home run while Zach was 3-for-4 to lead Franklin Parish, which had 17 hits in the game. Tyler Trant had the only extra-base hit for Monterey (3-6) with a double.
