FERRIDAY — Services for Jewel Chester Mason, 75, of Ridgecrest, who died Sunday, March 22, 2009, in Ridgecrest, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Young’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Cullum officiating.
Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. at Greenoaks Memorial Park and Mausoleum, in Baton Rouge, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Mason was born Nov. 28, 1933, in Longstreet, La., the son of Nathaniel Aiken Mason and Maggie Taylor Mason. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. He was retired after 40 years as a tug boat captain. Jewel was a Mason. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma Higginbotham; one daughter, Perry Mason; and one grandson, Cody Ryan Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Wells Mason; three daughters, Terry Mason Ezell of Baton Rouge; Peggy Rogers and husband, Randy, both of Walker, La., and Karen Free and husband, Jay, both of Roxie; four sons, Chester Mason and wife, Bonnie, both of Denham Springs, La., Chris Thomas of Denham Springs, La., Billy Wells and wife, Lendi, both of Cabot, Ark., and Michael Wells and wife, Lizzie, both of Ozark, Mo.; six granddaughters, Tabitha Goodman, Amber Wise, Whitney Wells, Tiffany Wells, Ashley Wells and Syndi Wells; five grandsons, Austin Jake and Heather Rogers, Logan Mason Rogers, Ryan Peairs, Joshua Wells and Shawn Wells; and three great-grandsons, Mason Bartley, Braydon Goodman and Blazen Goodman.
