NATCHEZ — A Natchez teen will stand trial for murder today.
Jordan R. Bates, 18, will be in Adams County Circuit Court to face allegations that he killed Charvius Martin, 24, in August 2008.
District Attorney Ronnie Harper said jury selection will begin at 9 a.m. and expects the trial to start shortly after.
In the 2008 killing, Bates, a passenger in a vehicle being driven by Martin, is alleged to have shot Martin twice in the back of the head as they drove through the Roselawn neighborhood.
A second passenger in the vehicle, Erik Hutchins, 20, was also charged in connection with the shooting. Hutchins was charged with tampering with physical evidence for allegedly leaving the scene with evidence.
Bates was arrested hours after the murder and indicted on a murder charge in December.
Harper said he expects the trial to last two or three days.
