NATCHEZ — Four car burglaries have been reported in Natchez in the past two days.
An XM radio was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Mansfield Drive and a window was pried open on a vehicle on North Shields Lane, from which a CD player was stolen.
Both burglaries were reported Monday.
On Tuesday, a purse was reported stolen from a car on St. Catherine Street and a wallet was reported stolen from a car of High Street.
Natchez Chief of Police Mike Mullins said to avoid car burglaries, residents should first lock their cars and also remove or hide any items of value.
“Anything a criminal may use to sell or use for cash, that encourages them to break into the vehicle,” he said.
Mullins said the best-case scenario is to remove all valuable items from the car.
“Probably 80 percent of the vehicles that get broken into in my career, there were things in plain view — GPS, laptop,” Mullins said.
“It’s a constant never-ending battle for us,” he said.
Mullins said the burglaries are under investigation.
The burglaries on High and St. Catherine streets could be connected due to close proximity, he said.
