Beau Pré to host four-ball

NATCHEZ — The golf balls will be flying through the air at Beau Pré Country Club this weekend.
But only a few of those balls will count for scoring.
Beau Pré ill host 76 two-person teams at its annual Pilgrimage Four Ball Invitational today and Sunday.
“It’s actually Beau Pré’s first big tournament of the year,” said Beau Pré general manager Tom Bryant.
Four Ball pits two teams of two players against each other using better-ball scoring.
Each player plays his or her own ball throughout, and at the end of each hole, the low score between a team’s partners is that team’s score.
Two teams at a time will face off, and each flight will receive prizes in the form of gift certificates.
“There’s $2,200 in prizes per flight,” Bryant said. “There will be approximately five to six flights, so that is $10,000 to $12,000 total.”
The $350 entry fee per team guarantees golfers a number of amenities, including Friday night’s players’ party at Beau Pré; a tee gift; green fees, carts and range balls for the weekend; continental brunch and lunch both days; a Saturday night prime rib dinner and happy hour; and on-course beverages.
First tee time Saturday is 8:09 a.m., with Larry Hill and Eric Smith teeing off against Ron Naomi and Kyle Naomi.
The second flight will tee off at 8:27 a.m., and the final tee time Saturday is at 2:21 p.m.
Bryant said the tournament is not actually affiliated with Pilgrimage but does bring in some golfers who are in town for Natchez’s event.
“We’ve been working on this for two months,” Bryant said. “We do two four-ball tournaments per year, and they’re a pretty big deal.”
