NATCHEZ — Kimble Devening’s 2-run single ignited a seven-run rally in the bottom of the third inning as the Cathedral Lady Green Wave rallied for a 10-7 win over the West Lincoln Lady Bears Monday afternoon in Division 7-1A action.

Cathedral head coach Gary Blackwell said he was proud of his team for giving up after being down 5-1 to a young West Lincoln team before going to bat in the bottom of the third.

“With all the losses they’ve had, they’ve never given up. And now it’s showing up in district. They battled back,” Blackwell said.

A few batters later, Mollie Devening delivered with a three-run double that gave Cathedral a 6-5 lead. Ginny Daggett followed that with a two-run triple to make an 8-5 game in favor of the Lady Green Wave.

West Lincoln scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut Cathedral’s lead to just one run, but the Lady Green Wave responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth.

“It was a big win. We needed to win this game,” Blackwell said. “If we win out this week, we’ll wind up in second place in district. It’s a big win for the girls because it’s a confidence builder.”

Winning pitcher Laura Perilloux went the first three innings for Cathedral (5-12, 2-2), allowing five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one. Mollie Devening picked up the save after giving up just two runs on two hits and two walks and she struck out three in four innings. Daggett wound up going 2-for-2 with a total of four runs batted in.

MONTEREY, La. — Holli Clay pitched a two-hitter over five innings and Ellen Bairnsfather had two big hits as the Monterey Lady Wolves defeated the Delhi Charter Lady Gators 10-0 Monday afternoon.

Clay allowed just one other Delhi Charter to reach base in the five-inning contest and that was on a walk. She also struck out four and the defense behind her committed no errors.

Monterey (11-9) scored two runs in each of the first three innings. The Lady Wolves then ended the game early by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Bairnsfather went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, Clay had a double of her own and Taylor Morace was 2-for-3.

McDowell and Philliey had the only two hits for Delhi Charter.

With Monterey’s home game against Cathedral having been cancelled due to the Lady Green Wave’s division doubleheader at Resurrection, the Lady Wolves won’t play again until April 7 when it plays at Kilbourne in a District 3-B game.

Also, Monterey’s game district game at Forest that was rained out back on March 12 will take place on April 13. And its district home game against Kilbourne that was supposed to have taken place last Thursday but was postponed due to the bad weather has been rescheduled for April 15. Both varsity games will start at 4 p.m.
