TYLERTOWN —The Cathedral fast-pitch softball team secured second place in MHSAA Region 8-1A and a hosting gig for the playoffs with a split in a doubleheader with Salem Wednesday.

The Green Wave won the first game 8-7 to make sure they would host the opening round before falling 9-6 in the second game.

“We’ve still got to play Resurrection, but we were told we were in second place,” coach Gary Blackwell said.

Ginny Daggett went 2-for-4 with a triple and Kimble and Mollie Devening each hit doubles in the first game win.

The Lady Wave had nine hits but could only score six in the second game, with no extra base hits.

“I knew we had second place sewn up so we made some changes,” Blackwell said. “We just got behind in that last game. We struggled back but just couldn’t get it.”
