Natchez — Symphony of Gardens Tour provides a rare opportunity to view 11 exquisite private and estate gardens in historic Natchez, Saturday May 2 and Sunday, May 3.
This third annual event, to be held rain or shine, consists of self-guided tours of the finest private gardens in Natchez.
“A garden is like a symphony, with movement, drama and notes of beauty,” said Karen Dardick, chairperson for the event. “People who love to garden can become inspired by design ideas, fascinating plants and plant combinations. People who love beauty will appreciate the artistry of gardening.”
Eleven town and estate gardens will be open. They are: Emrick’s Garden, High Cotton Herb Garden, Cassagne Garden, Van Court Town House, Zurhellen Garden and Edgewood, where entertainment will take place on Saturday afternoon.
Sunday afternoon, Oak Hill, Rip Rap, Governor Holmes Courtyard, Purvis vegetable garden and Magnolia Vale gardens will be open. Entertainment will take place at Magnolia Vale on Sunday.
Many of the gardens are at historic antebellum or Victorian houses. Plants reflect a diversity of types, according to the homeowners’ preferences. Some are traditional for Mississippi historic landscapes; others are contemporary versions of old favorites. Designs range from formal and classic to contemporary and informal.
