BATON ROUGE (AP) — The LSU hospital in New Orleans would bear the brunt of cuts to the university’s public hospital system under a plan presented to lawmakers Wednesday to cope with budget cuts proposed next year by Gov. Bobby Jindal.
The LSU Health Care Services Division, called HCSD, which runs seven charity hospitals across south Louisiana, receives a $911 million budget in Jindal’s spending recommendations for the new fiscal year that begins July 1.
That would be $25 million less than what the hospitals expect to spend this year, according to data provided to the House Appropriations Committee by Fred Cerise, LSU vice chancellor for health affairs and medical education.
