Educational opportunities abounded in the Miss-Lou last week, and area students took advantage of what was out there.

Let’s review some of the good news from last week.

The Co-Lin Media Symposium brought four area high schools together for a taste of life in the media. The students learned about writing, photography and reporting.

Students at Morgantown Elementary School participated in an Earth Day teleconference that linked them with students across the country. The experience left the group more knowledgeable about the environment and technology.

Festival of Music performers hosted a week of productions for school children, showcasing musical and on-stage talents. Some of the children in attendance had never been exposed to the arts like they were this week, and we know the experience was eye opening.

Trinity students attended the school’s job fair, learning about an array of careers available in the Miss-Lou. The visiting professionals shared their time and their knowledge in a way that is likely to benefit us all in the future.

Volunteers manned booths at Historic Jefferson College Saturday, as families visited to learn a little more about the great outdoors. This fun-filled event was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

And on top of all the area educational opportunities, Promise Hospital had a ribbon-cutting ceremony at their new Vidalia riverfront location. The new building will mean jobs and continued development for our area.

As school winds down, we know the summer is going to be a great one.
