The last day of the weekend came in like a lion with strong storms ripping through the area leaving bits of destruction all over the area.

Even as workers continue the clean up, the weather was but a fleeting bit of sour news in another week filled with great news about our giving community.

Yes, it was a week highlighted by fundraising efforts all across the Miss-Lou.

The biggest fundraiser in the area got off without a hitch Friday night and into early Saturday morning. The annual Miss-Lou Relay for Life event raised more than $194,000 for the American Cancer Society. The funds will go toward the ongoing fight against cancer. This year’s Relay was an amazing example of just how generous our community is.

Across town the parents, faculty and friends of Trinity Episcopal Day School were raising funds in its annual Mayfair Festival.

Fundraisers led to the passing of a special set of keys last week, from the Natchez Trace Chapter of the Kiwanis Club to the Boys and Girls Club of the Miss-Lou. The Kiwanis Club purchased a bus for the Boys & Girls Club to use. The rolling gift will save the club from having to hire out buses, which cost them approximately $10,000 last year.

As the evidence of the storms gets cleared up, we know this week will be filled with lots of good news.
