NATCHEZ — Services for Louis Hugh Denton Jr., 69, of Church Hill, who died Monday, May 4, 2009, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Assumption Catholic Church with the Rev. David O’Connor officiating.
Burial will follow at Christ Episcopal Church in Church Hill under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Church Hill United Methodist Church, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
Mr. Denton was born Feb. 22, 1940, the son of Louis Hugh Denton Sr. and Lela Brown Denton. He was a graduate of Fayette High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. While at the university, where he majored in journalism, he served on the staff at the Student Printz school newspaper.
Mr. Denton was employed by Kaiser Enterprises in Natchez as supervisor of the Kaiser Marts in Natchez and the MRK in Vidalia.
He was a member of Assumption BVM Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He was a supporter of the University of Southern Mississippi athletics.
Mr. Denton was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Foster Denton; two daughters, Mary Catherine Denton Frasier and husband, John D. III, of Church Hill and Charlotte Denton Gage and husband, Jeffrey A. Gage of Tampa, Fla.; two grandsons, J.D. Frasier and Michael Hugh Gage; one sister, Dinah Denton Ricks of Sacramento, Calif.; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Ricks, Tim Ricks, Steve Robertson, Louis Guedon, Mike Guedon, Adolph Wagner III, Mike Ray and Jimmy Frasier.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles S. Dawkins, Francis Brown and Mike Piazza.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cathedral School, the Church Hill United Methodist Church or St. Mary Basilica for the Family Life Building Center.
