ROYCE, La. — Funeral services for Johnnie Wesley Walters Sr., 77, of Royce, who died May 9, 2009 in Alexandria, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Satcher officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Walters was born Jan 1, 1932, in Natchez, the son of Jerry and Nancy C. Artmann Walters. Mr. Walters served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received a Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Star and the United Nations Service Medal. Mr. Walters retired from the Mississippi Army National Guard with more than 20 years of service.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jean Ramirez Walters.

Survivors include two sons, Johnnie Wesley Walters Jr. and wife, Jeannene of Gautier, and Richard Michael Walters, O.D. and wife Deborah of Royce; five grandchildren, Kelly Suzanne Walters, Petty Officer 3rd Class Scott Walters, Nikki Lynn Doyen, Steven Michael Walters and Shelly Marie Walters; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margie W. Ogden of Natchez and Betty W. Brown and husband, Gerald of Laurel; two brothers, Ray C. Walters and wife, Linda of Roxie and James H. Walters of Natchez.
