Pleasant Acre Day School is celebrating. Can you believe they have been in their little brick building located in Liberty Park for 50 years?
In 1959 a small group of dedicated family members, friends, neighbors and concerned advocates of the trainable mentally challenged formed the Association for Retarded Children. From this beginning Pleasant Acre Day School was established.
Through the efforts of these dedicated pioneers who donated labor and material, many special people have had a place to call their own. They have learned self-help and life skills while interacting with their peers and the community. These special students are fulfilling their potential as citizens of the Miss-Lou. Many life enrichment moments of this milestone journey have been enjoyed at Pleasant Acre Day School.
Teachers Mary Ann Foggo-Eidt and Judy Grimsley have done an incredible job over the years. They are to be commended for their dedication to helping better the lives of the many mentally challenged students who have come through the school’s door and have worked tirelessly to insure that every student has reached his or her potential.
Many celebrations are scheduled to highlight this golden jubilee. A commemorative yearbook is being compiled which highlights the past 50 years of smiles, fun and friends. Ads and patrons expressing congratulations have been solicited to make this project successful. The Miss-Lou has supported these efforts over the last 50 years with an outstanding response.
If anyone would like to be a part of this 50th celebration yearbook, you may send your donation to be a patron or to purchase an ad to P.O. Box 1362, Natchez, MS, 39121 or call 601-442-2264.
A special celebration birthday party is planned in September to express gratitude to the Miss-Lou for its 50 years of community involvement. Pleasant Acre Day School has enjoyed being a part of this community and would like for you to help us celebrate.
The Pleasant Acres kids will start their celebrating June 1, when they take their summer trip to Biloxi — the first time since Katrina! Excitement abounds for them as they pack their swim suits, sunscreen and flip flops. Staying in the motel, swimming and eating at seafood restaurants while enjoying the Coast activities of fun in the sun will be moments to remember highlighting 50 years full of living for the students at Pleasant Acre.
Thank you for your participation and I hope you will help us celebrate 50 years in September.
