FERRIDAY — Services for Leo W. Mitchell Sr., 87, of Monterey, who died Monday, May 25, 2009, at LaSalle General Hospital in Jena, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Young’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Beard officiating.
Burial will follow at White Cemetery in Monterey under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Mitchell was born July 15, 1921, in Picayune, the son of the Rev. B.W. Mitchell and Alice Mitchell. He was retired from the highway department and was a member of the Pentecostal church.
Mr. Mitchell served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, enlisting Aug. 20, 1942, and received an honorable discharge in Nov. 5, 1945.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Lee Mitchell; his parents; one son, Johnny Snyder Mitchell; one great-granddaughter, Rebecca Dryg; one brother; and four sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Core and husband, Robbie, and Dorothy Millican and husband, Tommy, all of Monterey; three sons, Leo Mitchell Jr. and wife, Jeannie, of Lafayette, Tony Mitchell and wife, Stephanie, of Lafayette and Price Gallup and wife, Bertha, of Monterey; one sister, Edna Booth of Jonesville; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Keith Owens, B.J. Guidry, Johnathan Olds, Dillon Wickliffe, Eric Wike and Eric Sharp.
Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Green, Terry Robinson and grandsons.
