NATCHEZ — Services for Alice Theresa “Nellie Ruth” Smoot, 74, of Natchez, who died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at her residence, will be at noon Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Justin Conner officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Miss Smoot was born Nov. 4, 1934, in Adams County, the daughter of Charlie Smoot and Olivia Walker Smoot. She was a graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School and earned a degree in nursing from the Natchez Charity Hospital.
Miss Smoot was a surgical nurse and a midwife. She was employed by Evers Clinic in Fayette and AJFC Community Action Head Start Program, from which she was retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include one sister, Camille Smoot of Natchez; one brother, Joseph Smoot of Chicago; one nephew, Gregory Green of Bessemer, Ala.; one niece, Olivia Johnson and husband, Warren, of Memphis, Tenn.; three great-nieces, Dr. Paula Green of Natchez, Camille Johnson and Alyssa Johnson, both of Memphis; one great-nephew, Shedrick Green; one brother-in-law, James Knowles, both of Natchez; three special cousins, Myra Jones, Frankie Jones and Dr. and Mrs. J.R. Todd Jr., all of Natchez; one niece-in-law, Ella D. Lyles; and a number of other relatives and friends.
