Vidalia Police Chief Ronnie G. “Tapper” Hendricks said the funds given his department would be used to buy video and audio recording equipment for patrol cars.

“They used to have that a long time ago, and we are bringing it back,” Hendricks said. “It’s a safety tool for the officer and the community.”

Some of the funds will also be used to finish installing security cameras on the Vidalia Riverfront and at intersections in the city, Hendricks said.

“This is actually a wireless system that, if there is a trouble area, we can take them and move them to that area,” Hendricks said.

Concordia Parish Sheriff Randy Maxwell said in a statement that the funds allocated to the CPSO would be used primarily to purchase a new search and rescue boat.

The funds will also be used to buy computers and software that can be used to link offices in the courthouse that handle criminal cases to help track cases from beginning to end, Maxwell said.

“This is a huge windfall for the criminal justice system in Concordia Parish,” Maxwell said. “We are very, very thankful for all of this and it will certainly be put to good use.”

The Seventh Judicial District Attorney’s Office was also given $60,000, while the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office will receive $156,081 and the Tensas Parish Sheriff’s Office has been allocated $94,000.
