JACKSON (AP) — Jackson’s interim recreation director says he is not sure when the city will reopen a pool where a 17-year-old drowned on Friday.
Jackson police Lt. Jeffery Scott says lifeguards on duty and a rescue crew both gave CPR to Rubin Ledbetter after he reportedly was found at the bottom of the Russell C. Davis pool.
Ledbetter was pronounced dead at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Interim Parks and Recreation Director A.C. Jimerson said his staff will meet Monday to decide what needs to be done.
City Councilman Kenneth Stokes says he’s worried that the pools are too crowded for lifeguards to keep track of all the children. He says that if the city cannot dig more pools, it may have to limit the number of children in the water.
