Ferriday — Services for Helen D. Hester, 100, of Waterproof, who died Friday, June 19, 2009, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ferriday, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Young’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Clois Cole officiating.
Burial will follow at New Winnsboro Cemetery, Winnsboro, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hester was born March 21, 1909, in Springfield, Mo., the daughter of Thomas Ellis Dabbs and Eleanor Sloan “Miller” Dabbs.
She was a resident of Waterproof, and retired in 1973 from her position as a telephone operator with South Central Bell in Natchez after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Tensas Baptist Church of Waterproof.
The family thanks all of the staff at Heritage Manor who took time for and wonderful care of Mrs. Hester.
Mrs. Hester was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Ruth Price Stuart; three sisters, Margaret Dabbs Dayton, Thoma Dabbs Ball and Mary Dabbs Pounds; two brothers, William “Bill” Dabbs and Todd Dabbs; three husbands, Ivy Price, Horace P. Seaman and Huey Hester; two sons-in-law, George Stuart and Glen Keyes; two grandsons, George Ellis Stuart and Jamie Stuart; one great-granddaughter, Christina Stuart Springfield; and one great-great-granddaughter, Ashley Danielle Taylor.
Survivors include one son, Ivy “Bud” Price and his wife, Dorothy, of Ferriday; one daughter, Edith Keyes of Waterproof; one sister, Louise McLeod and her husband, James “Jimmy,” of Natchez; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a number of great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her many friends at Rivergate Bowl.
Pallbearers will be Dickie Keyes, Linda Counts, Ralph Price, Gene Price, Bart Stuart and Dean Coldiron.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Smith, Allen Smith, Dr. Gibson, Daryle Price and Michael Keyes.
