NATCHEZ — The first-ever Miss-Lou All Sports Clinic will be a great way for children ages 5-13 to learn the basics of several sports, organizers said.

The Miss-Lou All Sports Clinic will be from 8 a.m. until noon Monday, June 29 through Thursday, July 2 at the Natchez Convention Center. Leigh Anne Mason, the clinic’s promoter, is expecting between 100 and 200 kids to attend.

“We didn’t have pre-registration, which we should have. You can register at the Convention Center or the Natchez Grand Hotel,” Mason said. “We’ll be keeping them out of the heat and in the air conditioning.”

The cost is $50 for the first child and $40 for the second child.

The clinic will involve football, baseball and softball (hitting and fielding), basketball, soccer, cheerleading and a fitness class for boys that involves proper stretching techniques.

Area coaches and college players will work with the children.

Mason said the Miss-Lou All Sports Clinic will “most definitely” become an annual event.

“No one planned a convention the week of the Fourth of July,” Mason said. “We want them to learn the basics of all the sports.”

Among the local coaches and college players from the Miss-Lou who be a part of this four-day event will be Matthew Freeman, Kolby Byrd, Richy Spears, Parker Brumfield, Chad Ridley, Caitlyn Johnson, Alyx Atkinson, Kolby Godfrey and Stephen Cooksey. Mason said that she hopes former Trinity Episcopal and current LSU running back Stevan Ridley will attend, but she hasn’t heard back from him.

“The kids will spend 40 minutes at each station,” Mason said. “Natchez Rehab will be giving a speech. Mississippi Tobacco-Free Coalition will have a seminar on staying tobacco-free. Mississippi Sports Medicine will do a preventative seminar on how to avoid injuries and drinking plenty of water. The last day there will be a college and pro players luncheon. They will be signing autographs and taking pictures with the kids.”

As to who is sponsoring the Miss-Lou All Sports Clinic, Mason said there are lots of sponsors. She added that there are too many $100 sponsors to name. She then said that the big sponsors are Natchez First Radio Group, Comcast, Natchez Convention Center and Natchez Grand Hotel.
