FERRIDAY — A local teen underwent surgery Monday to correct injuries he sustained following a Jet Ski accident on Lake St. John Saturday evening.
Jacob Beatty, 15, was injured Saturday after a Jet Ski piloted by another juvenile collided with the personal watercraft he was a passenger on, his grandmother Rae Beatty said.
When the watercraft flipped following the collision, it crushed Jacob Beatty’s leg.
“It knocked a big, gaping hole in his leg and he lost a lot of blood from it,” Rae Beatty said.
“He has been suffering and hurting a whole lot.”
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents responded to the accident shortly after 8 p.m., and LDWF Lt. Russ Kiser said alcohol did not play a role in the accident.
Following the accident, Jacob Beatty was taken to Riverland Medical Center before he was transported to an Alexandria-area hospital.
“At 1 a.m. (Sunday) they took him to Alexandria, and by 4 a.m. they had him in surgery,” Rae Beatty said.
Along with the follow-up surgery Monday, Rae Beatty said doctors anticipate three or four more surgeries over the next couple of years to completely correct the injuries Jacob Beatty sustained.
The final boating accident report has not been filed yet, and no arrests were made in the incident, Kiser said.
