Co-Lin instructors honored at conference

AUSTIN, Texas — Four Copiah-Lincoln Community College faculty and staff members were selected recipients of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development’s Teaching Excellence Award for 2009.
Jackie Martin of Bogue Chitto, Julie Gaudin of McComb, Joe Swoveland and Terry Stutzman, both of Natchez were honored at the NISOD’s annual International Conference May 24-27 on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin.
Stutzman has been a medical billing and coding instructor on Co-Lin’s Natchez Campus since 2005. She is a graduate of Mississippi State University, University of Mississippi Medical Center and the University of Southern Mississippi. Prior to coming to Co-Lin, Stutzman worked for Natchez Regional Medical Center and Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.
Swoveland received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. He also worked as a licensed professional counselor before teaching. Swoveland is a past recipient of Co-Lin’s High Performance Award.
Swoveland is a psychology/sociology instructor on the Natchez Campus. He also serves as the co-advisor for the Student Government Association.
The NISOD conference is the largest international conference to focus specifically on the celebration of teaching, learning and leadership excellence. NISOD’s faculty, staff and administrators from more than 400 community colleges and other institutions of higher learning, gather in Austin each May to support the highest standards of teaching and leadership excellence.
