BROOKHAVEN — Services for Versie C. Nations, 77, of Brookhaven, who died Friday, July 3, 2009, at Mississippi Baptist Hospital in Jackson, were Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Riverwood Family Funeral Home in Brookhaven.
Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Riverwood Family Funeral Service.
Mr. Nations was born Jan. 13, 1932, the son of Versie Collins Nations and Iva Smith. He was retired from Herring Gas Company. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Nations served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Woodman of the World. He also received the Golden D’s Award. Mr. Nations was famous for his fried catfish and hushpuppies.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Amaryllis Herring Nations; two sons, Freddie Collins Nations and Eve and Timothy “Timmy” Wayne Nations and Judy; one brother, John Paul Nations and wife, Rinda Sue; two sisters, Analo Nations Wallace and Iva Nell Nations Foster and husband, Ed; three grandchildren, Joshua Collins Nations, Jonathan Christopher Nations and Keith Mulvihill; and his devoted yellow lab, Dolly.
