JACKSON (AP) — Relatives say one of the survivors of Sunday’s church bus crash on Interstate 20/59 in east Mississippi is in a medically induced coma.
Doctors told the family that 12-year-old Maggie Lee Henson’s brain stem is damaged and there is swelling on the brain. She also has a broken pelvis and collar bones. Henson remained in critical condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center Wednesday.
Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler III said Brandon Ugarte died after the crash and 23 others were injured. Most of the survivors have left hospitals.
Henson is the only one in critical condition.
The bus was carrying a youth group from the First Baptist Church of Shreveport, La., to Georgia when a tire blew out.
