Judge accused of favoritism

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Louisiana Judiciary Commission says a Jefferson Parish judge decided a case on favoritism, and should be ousted.
The state Supreme Court will hold a hearing and decide whether District Judge Joan Benge should be punished.
Benge did not immediately return a call to her home in Kenner on Saturday.
The recommendation is based on a $4,275 award eight years ago to a plaintiff represented by one of her campaign donors.
The advisory commission alleges that Benge’s ruling was based partly on the fact that the plaintiff’s lawyer was one of her campaign donors, and on influence from a corrupt judge.
Its recommendation is based partly on taped phone conversations between Benge and Judge Robert Bodenheimer, one of 14 defendants convicted in the FBI’s Wrinkled Robe investigation.
