NATCHEZ — Services for Hattie J. Barnes, 95, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at her residence, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Mount Sinai Baptist Church with the Rev. James Brooks officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Mrs. Barnes was born May 16, 1914, in Adams County, the daughter of George Jones and Virginia Green Jones. She graduated from nursing school in 1954 in Chicago. She was employed by the General Hospital as an LPN and also was employed by Dr. Mutziger’s office for many years. She was the former treasurer for the church’s poor fund, Coworkers Club and the senior choir.
Mrs. Barnes loved to crochet, outdoor activities and loved to fish with her husband,
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 72 years, Gabriel Barnes; four sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include one daughter, Taji Leah Henyard and husband, Dave, of Petal; one goddaughter, Gloria Miller of Natchez; two sisters, Sarah Broadway of New Orleans and Mary Lee Williams of Sibley; three grandchildren, Daylin Gabriel Lee Henyard, Nyla Leilani Henyard and Jayda LaShan Henyard, all of Petal; one brother-in-law, McKinley Barnes; two special nephews, Willie Jones and Albert Jones; and other nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
