Last week of summer was a good one

By the end of the day today, pupils at every local school will have completed their first day of the new academic year.
The start of school brings such a rush of emotions for young children and parents and a great feeling of a clean start for older students. We are excited about the 2009-2010 school year, and we know it’s going to be a great one.
But the last week of school-free days didn’t pass without some fun. Before we get knee-deep in homework and football, let’s review some of the good news from last week.
4 The Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce has wrapped up a successful membership drive, signing up 106 new members. We love to see this organization grow, because it’s a win-win. Business will benefit from the partnership, but the community stands to grow leaps and bounds from a large, active chamber.
4 The Markets Food and Lifestyle Show filled the Natchez Convention Center this weekend, and we know no hungry stomachs walked out. The annual event is a fun family weekend, and we thank The Markets for bringing it back year after year.
4 Tuesday night, families and neighborhoods gathered outside their houses to greet traveling law enforcement officers as a part of the annual National Night Out. All local communities played a role in the great event, and we know such a meet-and-greet goes a long way in keeping our community safe.
Good luck to all those starting school today. We know it’s going to be a great week.
