LORMAN — Local agricultural producers as well as those who are just interested in learning more about the industry and new techniques will have the chance to do so for free Thursday.
The Alcorn State University School of Agriculture, Research, Extension and Applied Sciences will have its annual Agricultural Field Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.
The theme of the field day is “Sustainable agriculture: building stronger local communities.”
“Our field day is for farmers and agriculture workers, students and teachers of agriculture, and the members of the public who are expected to learn more about fruit and vegetable production, livestock management, water quality and conservation, biotechnology and marketing and business management,” Interim Director of Agricultural Experimental Station Patrick Igbokwe said.
The information presented at the field day will be done so through lectures, tours and demonstrations, Igbokwe said.
The field day will also include exhibits and performances by scientists, extension agents, educators, as well as company representatives and other guest speakers, Igbokwe said.
Along with having no registration fee, the field day does not require pre-registration.
“Those who want to take part have nothing to do other than show up on the morning of Aug. 27 and register,” Igbokwe said.
Breakfast and lunch will be served at the field day free of charge, and Igbokwe said organizers expect approximately 300 people to attend.
Registration will be from 8 to 9 a.m. at the school of agriculture, and the field day programs will be from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
