Lloyd finishes third in Miss Black USA pageant

Ferriday — Tiffany Monique Lloyd, native of Ferriday and the reigning Miss Black Louisiana USA 2009 placed in the top three as a runner up in the Miss Black USA pageant which on Aug. 3 at the University of District of Columbia in Washington, D.C.

The pageant categories were personal interview, fitness, talent, evening gown and on stage question and answer.

The contestants were also able to go to Capitol Hill to express concerns regarding health care.

There were 30 contestants and a host of celebrity judges including Dr. Ian Smith of the “50 Million Pound Challenge.”

“Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns” actor, Lamman Rucker, served as the host along with Deya Smith, senior producer of the “Tom Joyner Morning Show.”

Lloyd was also recognized as placing in the top ten as America’s choice. She also made history in the state by being selected as Miss Black Louisiana two years in a row.

Her platform is, “Conquering Poverty: Living A Life of Hope.” She is speaking across the state about poverty and ways to improve communities.

Recently, she has been cast as a lead role in a romantic comedy play titled, “All the Women I’ve Loved” written and produced by the senior producer for CNN International Byron Harmon. The play will debut in January 2010.

Lloyd, will make her television debut on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. Host Clifton Davis will be interviewing Lloyd. Davis, a minister, appeared on television shows such as “Amen” and also wrote several hits for the Jackson 5, like “Never Can Say Goodbye”.

The taping will be on Tuesday, Sept. 22 in Dallas but will air at 9 a.m. on Sept. 23 and 4 p.m. Sept. 24.

The 1999 graduate of Ferriday High School recently received a proclamation from the Louisiana House of Representatives and Louisiana Senate for outstanding leadership and received the 2009 Louisiana Emerging Leader Award from the Louisiana Municipal Black Caucus Association.

Also, Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden presented her with a key to the city and proclaimed that it was Tiffany Monique Lloyd’s day.

She is the former Miss Alcorn State University and doctoral student at Southern University A&M College.

She is the daughter of Gloria Lloyd and the late coach Tommy Lloyd, Jr.
