FERRIDAY — A Rapides Parish man died Saturday after part of the tree he was removing from a field outside Ferriday fell on him.

Brett D. Fuqua, 45, of Ruby, was apparently pushing the tree with a tractor at the time of the accident, according to a news release from the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

“He was pushing a tree down with a tractor, and a limb broke out of the top of the tree and hit him on the top of the head,” Concordia Fire District No. 2 Chief Nolen Cothern said.

Emergency response crews responded to the accident at 9:48 a.m., and Metro Ambulance Service transported Fuqua to to Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday.

Assistant Coroner Georgia Dison pronounced Fuqua dead at the hospital.
