Natchez cannot go without a planner

I know Mr. Rusty Lewis, former city planner of Natchez, and Mr. Lewis is a certified city planner with many years experience. He obviously conducted himself in a very professional manner during his tenure as our planner, which seems contrary to the conduct of our elected city officials.
I fail to understand the logic behind the total dismantling of a city department that is so essential in assuring activities conducted within the city limits are in accordance with code requirements. I agree with the mayor, “We’ve got to have a city planner,” but we also need a city planning and development department!
We had that until just recently. Another thought, do we really need a mayor and board of aldermen? Maybe we just need a city manager and a maintenance supervisor for each district.
