See a cleaner world through child’s eyes

Sometimes, in the day-to-day pressures of the world we all live in, it takes an event seen through the eyes of children to bring us back to reality.
The Adams County Green Alliance, in conjunction with Arts Natchez, the Downtown Development Association, Keep Natchez/Adams County Beautiful and Keep Mississippi Beautiful, is hosting just such an event and you are invited!
On Friday, Nov. 7 there will be a special reception at Arts Natchez Gallery at 110 N Union St. from 6 to 8 p.m. to view the results of the countywide art contest for fifth and sixth graders.
The purpose of the contest is to heighten the awareness of the fifth and sixth graders to the importance of conserving the earth’s natural resources.
Through the eyes of children there should certainly be some interesting and thought provoking images as they address such subjects as conservation, recycling, ugliness created in nature by man, etc.
The Green Alliance is proud to have Arts Natchez and the Downtown Development Association as partners in this contest and is especially honored to have the executive director and the assistant executive director of Keep Mississippi Beautiful as the art judges, thanks to the efforts of Stephanie Hutchins.
Event coordinator Yvonne Murray feels that it is through the early educating of our youth as to the importance of conserving natural resources that a greater appreciation and expectation for such activities as recycling will eventually come about.
Yvonne points to the example of youth involvement in the selling of the concept of safety belts when they were introduced.
The statement, “If you love me Daddy you would buckle up,” should have no less impact than, “If you love me Daddy you would start a compost pile!”
Come join us on Friday Nov. 7 at Arts Natchez and let’s all see the world a little clearer through the eyes of children.
If you are interested in becoming more involved in making our environment a little better, come join us.
