FERRIDAY — A bathroom break and a long line at the concession stand meant you might have missed something Friday at Huntington — the game.

In less than an hour and a half, Trinity defeated the Hounds 19-0 on a muddy, cold field.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for Huntington and kept Trinity undefeated in District 6-A.

“We did enough to win. Huntington played extremely hard,” Trinity Episcopal head coach David King said.

It wasn’t a pretty game as the two teams combined to put the ball on the ground 19 times. The Saints ran the ball 10 times with three lost fumbles. The Hounds were not much better as they fumbled the ball nine times and lost two of them.

R.J. Fleming scored on a 9-yard run with 8:18 to go in the first quarter. The score remained at 6-0 until Fleming scored on a 41-yard run with 7:50 remaining in the third quarter. Chas Moroney’s extra point gave the Saints a 13-0 lead. Kent King scored on a 2-yard run late in the third quarter for the game’s final points.

Coach King said the solid play from the defense was the key to the win for Trinity Episcopal (8-3, 3-0), the No. 1 team in Class A.

So why did the game go so quickly? No, it was not because there were no penalty flags thrown on either team.

“Both teams were running the ball and it kept the clock running,” Huntington defensive coordinator Matt Mason said. “Our kids are young, but they played hard all game.”

“Matt and (Huntington head coach) Chad (Harkins) are good coaches and good friends,” King said. “Everybody in the state has played in this (weather) for a month. It’s taken us out of our game plan. But it’s a part of football.”

Fleming finished with 13 carries for 154 yards. Givonni Dent completed 3 of 6 passes for 41 yards with one interception.

King added that he was glad that his team came out of the game with no injuries, especially with the Class A South State Playoffs starting next Friday.

“Trinity’s got a good team and they’ll make a good run in the playoffs,” Mason said.

Huntington finished the season at 3-8 overall and 0-3 in district play.
