FERRIDAY — The Trinity Episcopal girls didn’t have too much trouble handling the Huntington School girls Tuesday morning in the Huntington Doubleheader.

The Lady Saints pounded the Lady Hounds 54-20, and Trinity head coach Richy Spears said the game was a good time for all of his players to see some action.

“All of my players played in every quarter,” Spears said. “Each player had a big game. It was a good, all-around team effort.”

Madelyne Cross led in scoring for Trinity with 18 points. Bethany Ogden added 13 points and Erin O’Quinn tallied 11 points.

“We haven’t had very much practice and very many games because of football,” Spears said. “It was good for us to go play a game, because you get tired of practicing against each other. It was nice to play against someone besides ourselves.”

For Huntington, Abi Brown led in scoring with 11 points.

Trinity (3-1) will play Tuesday against Madison-Ridgeland Academy in the MRA tournament. Tipoff for the girls is set for 6:30 p.m.

ACCS 40, Silliman 29

The Adams County Christian Lady Rebels held Silliman Institute to six points in the first, second and fourth quarters as they defeated the Lady Wildcats 40-29 Tuesday at the Huntington Doubleheader.

ACCS won both of its games during the two-day tournament to improve to 9-2 overall heading into a big showdown on its home court with second-ranked Brookhaven Academy next Monday night.

“To God be the glory, as always,” ACCS head coach Melanie Hall said. “It wasn’t a pretty win, but we did what we had to do to get it. Desire was the difference tonight.”

The Lady Rebels played outstanding defense throughout much of the game. While Sydney Sones scored 15 points to lead Silliman, only three of her teammates managed to get into the scoring column.

ACCS took a 12-6 lead over Silliman at the end of the first quarter and by halftime had a 22-12 advantage. The Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Rebels 11-9 in the third quarter to cut lead back to single digits, but the Lady Rebels’ defense buckled down once again as they outscored the Lady Wildcats 9-6 in the fourth quarter.

Rachel Holloway led ACCS with a game-high 16 points while Marlee Wadsworth scored seven points and Krysten Arnold finished with five points.

“We seemed a little sluggish,” Hall said. “That’s not making excuses, because we shouldn’t be that way. However, I have yet to see a team play well early in the day, whether it be my team or other teams. I don’t know if it was something where everyone was a little bit out of their routine, but you have to be ready to play anytime you’re on the floor. You just have to be thankful for opportunities and take advantage of them.

“I’m thankful that at this point, everyone’s healthy. We’re just all very blessed.”

ACCS (9-2) will host Brookhaven Nov. 30.
