Snow expected tonight

NATCHEZ — The Miss-Lou could receive as much as three inches of snow tonight.
“We are expecting light rain to move into the area Friday afternoon and a changeover of snow for Friday night,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Ariel Cohen said.
“You could see an accumulation of 1-to 3-inches of snow in your area.”
The NWS forecast for this evening predicts lows around 29-degrees Fahrenheit with winds blowing north-northeast between 5 and 10 miles per hour.
Adams County Emergency Director Stan Owens said that after a conference call with the weather service Thursday, he expected the NWS to issue a winter storm watch for the area.
“Basically, everything south of Interstate 20 would come under that warning,” Owens said.
While Owens said the weather is not expected to result in serious icing, he did caution drivers to be careful because some of the bridges in the area ice very quickly.
“I would be very careful on the roads,” he said. “I don’t believe there will be a major icing event, but you always need to be careful in adverse conditions like this.”
Other than making sure you keep warm, Owens said homeowners should take in any hanging plants and ensure their pets’ safety.
“If you have any outside animals, you need to do what you can to comfort them and shelter them,” he said.
But even though it will be cold Friday night, by Saturday the NWS-predicted high is in the mid 40s.
“The snow will be mainly Friday night,” Cohen said. “By Saturday morning things will be clearing. It will remain cool, though we should have moderating temperatures into next week.”
