Ada Williams

FERRIDAY — Services for Ada Dean Williams, 93, of Ferriday, who went to heaven Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Ferriday with the Rev. Clyde Ray Webber and the Rev. Wayne Gray officiating.
Burial will follow at Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Williams was born July 14, 1916, in Mira, La., the daughter of Alonzo James and Lou Ada Fitzgerald Erwin. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ferriday. She was especially proud of the chimes at the church which she donated in memory of her first husband, Herschel Dean.
Mrs. Williams was a charter member of Panola Woods Country Club where she spent a number of days playing golf and won a number of tournaments. She and her husband, Herschel, founded and operated D&D Drilling Company.
She was greeted in heaven by her husbands, Herschel Harrison Dean and Dr. Chester Williams; her two brothers, Ernest Alonzo and Henry Joseph Erwin; two sisters, Margaret Erwin Webb and Minnie Mae Erwin Teer; her parents; and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Gail Horton and husband, Donald Ray, of Ferriday and Shirley Penny Dean Daye and husband, Donald Lamar, of Baton Rouge; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Donald Ray “Dee” Horton Jr., Pamela Freeman Horton, of Ferriday, Shawn Spencer and Jill Horton Burks of Baton Rouge, Herschel Jesse and Kendell Coney Horton, both of Natchez, Jeffrey Lambert and Kimberly Horton Poole of McKinnley, Texas, Donald Dean Daye of Lafayette, La., Daryl Lance and Kathy Polko Daye of Joplin, Mo., and Derek Andrew Daye of Fort Worth, Texas; great-grandchildren and their spouses, Rylie Brooke Horton, Mitchell Dean and Ranii Hammett Daye, all of Thibodaux, La., Shannon Paige Daye of Lafayette, Caroline Layne Burks, Cameron Jess Horton, Herschel Colby Horton, Payton Lambert Poole, Justin Dean Poole, Jess Allen Poole, Taylor Rayne Horton, Kaelin Ann Daye, Dayne Andrew Daye, all of Natchez, Spencer Dean Burks and Layton Andrew Daye would make 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Pallbearers will be Donald Ray “Dee” Horton, Herschel Jesse Horton, Donald Dean Daye, Daryl Lance Daye, Derek Andrew Daye, Shawn Spencer Burks, Jeffery Lambert Poole and Spencer Dean Burks.
